Utilizing Snapchat For Your Next Event
A while back we taught our readers how to create a custom and personalised Snapchat filter for use at an event. Snapchat is such an exciting channel for today’s event planners. We are really only scratching the surface of what we can do with this channel in the event planning and event marketing world! We thought we would dive a little deeper and give you a few more tips and tricks to successfully utilize Snapchat before, during, and after your next event.
Behind The Scenes Content
Before Snapchat we didn’t really have a medium to share live behind the scenes content. Now we do! It’s a great way to show guests aspects of the event they wouldn’t normally see like your speaker or musical artist moments before they take the stage, your caterers making final plating adjustments before the first course of your meal is served, and the venue space being transformed by your florists. If you have a celebrity speaker consider handing over the Snapchat account to them for the day. They can share what they are doing to get ready for the event from getting their hair done or getting ready to walk a red carpet.
Create a Geofilter
Don’t know what a geofilter is? To put it simply they are specific filters that can be placed over video footage or an image on Snapchat. These geofilters can only be unlocked by physically being in a certain location (or even more deeper, a certain location at a certain time!). You can even create your own custom filters. Check out these rules and guidelines if you’d like to create a custom Snapchat filter. These filters are a great way to surprise and delight the guest at your next event and make them feel like they’re part of something special. It’s also a great way for Snapchat users to flaunt the event to their friends and personalize their experience.
Don’t Forget to Have Fun With Snapchat’s Basic Features
Snapchat has a ton of fun, versatile stickers and emojis that you can easily use over images and videos to enhance your own original content! All you need to do is add an emoji and then you can pinch to adjust size, and even hold and drag to attach an emoji to a specific area of a video. Snapchat also offers a clock filter which is very useful if your event is counting down to something big. There are also slow motion and speed up video filters to have fun with dancing or other physical group activity at your event. You can also use the 3D filters to include a filter, like stars or bubbles, on the entire event space!
Snapchat has announced their new multi-Snap feature. To use this feature simply press and hold the capture button to record video footage. After holding down the button for 10 seconds, it’ll automatically record another clip. Users can create up to six Snaps and their thumbnails will display at the bottom of the screen every time a 10-second video is recorded, you can also delete any video Snaps in the sequence before publishing to your Story.
Snaphat also recently launched a new feature called Tint Brush, allowing users to add a different color to any object in a still photo Snap.
In our opinion, the coolest new feature is the Snap Map! It lets you view featured Snaps and those of your friends on a map.
1. Here’s how to use Snapchat Snap Map: Open the application and pinch the front camera and the Snap Map should launch automatically.
2. You’ll see a map of your location, and any friends or featured Snaps around you. Just click on the featured Snaps to view them.
3. The most important thing to remember in order to get your event promotion Snap featured is to select “Our Story” when sharing!
4. There’s also red, heat-mapped areas. These hot spots are places where multiple users have submitted Snaps to “Our Story.” High-activity venues or events with multiple submitted Snaps are also visible on the map. You will often see Snaps from a concert, football game, rally, or parade. The goal is to get your event guests adding to “Our Story” at your event location to create buzz and make the location of your event on the map red hot! To do this include your company or event’s Snapchat handle on branding materials so that your event guests know that they’re encouraged to post Snaps about the event!
Ask for feedback!
Don’t forget to ask your snapchat followers and event guests for their feedback on the event, this adds a personal touch to your postings, gets you valuable insight into the success of the event, and gives attendees a way to be involved even after the event is over! You have to get creative to receive feedback through Snapchat, what you’ll want to do is ask a yes or no question and follow up the question with the option to screen shot “yes” or “no.” Don’t forget you can make this fun and more creative!
Overall, Snapchat is a really exciting platform in the social media world and there’s no reason you can’t utilize it to spice up your next event!
